Singapore’s first Olympic champion gets hilariously relegated to the back of SIA photo

By now, Singapore’s first Olympic champion would have been way, way overwhelmed by all the attention and love he’s been getting from his home country.

Winning a gold medal for Singapore while beating his idol and swimming icon Michael Phelps is enough to garner him all the fans in the world, but we imagine he just wants a break from the spotlight. Perhaps that’s why Singapore Airlines (SIA) thought that they were doing Joseph Schooling a favour by relegating him to the back in a photo op.

As you can see, Schooling is nowhere in the focus of this image — it seems more like he’s just some rando who wandered into the middle of an SQ birthday bash or something. Hard-working Olympic hero or not, nobody stands in the way of the cabin crew posing demurely for the camera.

We figured we’d stand anywhere SIA wants us to stand though — after all, Schooling did just score their very prestigious KrisFlyer Elite Gold card (complete with a million frequent flyer miles).

Nonetheless, the damage was done and folks weren’t too happy that their Golden Boy was bumped to the back of the line.
