WATCH: How one man is waging a war against Orchard Road’s notorious bird poop problem

Even in the most busiest, most modern streets of Singapore, one cannot escape from one of the most revolting forces of nature — the incessant storm of bird shit.

Eight million tourists pass through the Orchard shopping district every year, and you can bet that a huge portion of that lot had an intimate brush with the daily swarm of mynahs, pigeons and more making the area their evening lepak spot. Yeah, you know what we mean — that stretch of pavement in the vicinity of 313@Somerset might as well have a permanent texture of white, green and black dung.

One man who’s all too familiar with the issue is none other than Steven Goh, the executive director of the Orchard Road Business Association. Aside from worrying about the declining retail scene of the once-famed shopping destination, Goh’s other troubles come in the avian form — birds roosting in Orchard from 6.30pm to 8pm to “have dinner and chit chat”. Watch the Discovery Channel documentary below on Goh’s struggles in finding a solution to the birdemic.
