Raging fire at Jurong West coffee shop and wet market; 300 residents evacuated

Residents living around Block 493, Jurong West Street 41, got a nasty shock today. A raging fire had engulfed the coffee shop and wet market in the wee hours of the morning, and about 300 people were forced to be evacuated.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the blaze around 2.45am, and dispatched three fire engines, four red rhinos, seven support vehicles and four ambulances. Six water jets and an aerial monitor were deployed to fight the flames. When the fire was at its worst, the roof of the wet market collapsed.

By 4.15am, the fire was put out, and the SCDF started damping down operations. Residents were progressively allowed back to their homes. No one sustained any injuries, except for a woman in her 60s who had difficulty breathing and was brought to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
