Josephine Teo responds to sex comment, talks about the need for honest conversation

So… Yesterday Senior Minister of State Josephine Teo talked about how couples only need ‘a very small space to have sex’ in an interview with The Straits Times, and the interwebz had a field day with it. It was a simple comment, meant to tell young couples that they didn’t need to have a flat before starting a family. But it came across the wrong way, leading to everyone chipping in on social media with jokes on all the ‘small spaces’ one can have sex in Singapore.

And then The Straits Times did an online poll of 14,000 people, with results pointing to 93 percent of the respondents voting in favour of flat first, then baby.

So last night, Teo admitted the coverage ‘might not have captured everything in the way [she] intended’. She then attempted to clear the air on Facebook, talking about the importance of having an honest conversation on how society can prepare for millennial families.
