Hong Kong authorities were left scratching their heads after the discovery of a shipment of nine armoured military vehicles and other strategic commodities in Kwai Chung yesterday.
The vehicles arrived last night on a container ship from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and were reportedly bound for Singapore.
FactWire (as quoted by Ming Pao) reports that there was no plan to unload the cargo; but customs, acting on a tip, inspected it and launched an investigation. The shipment comprised 12 containers — these held the vehicles and various other military accessories, which allegedly includes explosives.
“We are still trying to identify the owner, sender, and consignee of the cargo,” a government source told the SCMP.
Customs has seized nine out of the 12 vehicles, as well as other items from the shipment.
A picture of one of the vehicles was posted to a Facebook page for workers at the Kwai Chung Container Terminals, with the caption, “Seems like filming for Transformers 5 is about to begin in Hong Kong”.
Authorities in Singapore have remained silent on the revelations of the military shipment intended to be smuggled here.
