Certis Cisco officer killed on duty at Tuas Checkpoint after getting knocked down by alleged drunk driver

A minute of silence as yet another Singaporean passed on while on uniformed duty.

Just last Friday (Feb 10), a 33-year-old Certis Cisco officer was killed in the process of diverting traffic at Tuas Checkpoint.

The accident was reported by The Straits Times to have occurred around 2:30am, where Lance Corporal (Auxiliary Police Force) Norman Samri with two other Auxiliary Police Officers (APO) had been diverting traffic away from the first lane of the three-lane road towards Malaysia due to a minor accident that had occurred on that lane.

A car was then spotted speeding and swerving between the lanes, neglecting to slow down in the face of all three APOs, who had tried to jump out of its way. LCP Norman however was hit and flung a distance. He was then rushed to National University Hospital while conscious, but succumbed to his injuries an hour later.

The 28-year old Malaysian driver – who’s believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol – was arrested on the spot for causing death by rash act.

Certis Cisco’s top brass paid a visit to the late officer’s family that afternoon.

In a statement by Certis Cisco’s Commander, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Chua Chuan Seng, he says that Certis Cisco “will provide assistance and support to the bereaved family. We are working with ICA and SPF in their investigations into the incident.”
