25-year-old worker jailed two weeks for involvement in dorm riot

A 25-year-old foreign worker has been jailed for two weeks following his involvement in the fight at a Kaki Bukit worker dormitory in March.

Dharmaraj Ramesh was found guilty of using criminal force for throwing an empty beer can at Ahsan Habib Md Fazlan Rahman at the canteen of Homestay Residences in Kaki Bukit Avenue 3 on the night of the incident.

The court heard that Dharmaraj and four others were drinking beer in the canteen, where a group of Bangladeshis was watching a cricket game between their home country and the West Indies.

Annoyed at the noise generated by the crowd, Dharmaraj threw an empty beer can towards them, which ignited the fight.

Dharmaraj is the first man to be sentenced in the dormitory incident. One has been discharged, while 15 others have their cases pending.
