Sport Singapore not paying Sports Hub because #yourpitchissosandy

Not only has the sub-par condition of the new National Stadium pitch inspired #yourpitchissosandy, a local Twitter hashtag spoken in the tone of “your momma’s so fat…” jokes, it’s costing the Singapore Sports Hub some the dollars.

Sport Singapore CEO Mr. Lim Teck Yin has said that the pitch, on which the Brazil-Japan friendly was recently played, is “far from being satisfactory for an international match at any level befitting of our National Stadium”.

It has thus decided not to pay the Hub management for usage until the pitch conditions are sorted out.

According to Channel NewsAsia, Mr. Lim pointed out that the pitch has been a pressing problem since the match between Singapore Selection and Juventus. It continues to be one of the crucial deliverables that has failed to perform up to the standards the Hub has promised the government and public.

He also expressed that the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) and Football Association of Singapore have conveyed their concerns as to whether the National Stadium would be sufficiently geared up in time for the AFF Suzuki Cup, starting on Nov. 23.

Mr. Lim has called for the company to “do everything necessary” to guarantee the pitch will be up to AFF’s standards for the upcoming Suzuki Cup.
