Looks like Sanrio is making waves in Singapore this year. First, it was the announcement of Singapore’s first Hello Kitty cafe slated to open at Changi Airport in May. Now, there’s news of another iconic Japanese character coming to town, and it’s none other than Pompompurin.
The adorable yellow Golden Retriever with the trademark brown beret has already debuted cafes in cities like Hong Kong, Tokyo and Taiwan, and he’s about to leave his mark here.
Opening at Orchard Central in April, Pompompurin Cafe will be all kinds of heaven for fans. Think kawaii decor set to a ‘Garden City’ theme, and a menu filled with dishes like taco rice, mushroom and bacon carbonara, coconut milk chicken curry and beef stroganoff — all featuring cute 3D versions of Pompompurin. And let’s not forget sweet treats such as marshmallow lattes, and banana and caramel pancakes.
There’s also a cosy corner housing character merch, from handbags and seat cushions to calculators, travels blankets, pens and mugs.
