The man who was accused of throwing a cat off a HDB block in Yishun has been granted bail of $10,000 today, which will be posted so that he can spend Chinese New Year with his family.
According to Lee Wai Leong’s lawyer, it seems likely that the suspect’s father will be posting the bail, Channel NewsAsia reports. Lee had expressed through his lawyer the intent to request for bail in the hopes of spending Chinese New Year at home.
The 40-year-old was accused of cat abuse last year — he allegedly threw a tabby cat from the 13th floor of Block 115B Yishun Ring Road. The case was only one of the many that hit across Yishun late last year, where at least 19 cats were found dead or injured.
Lee had been ordered to stay in remand at the Institute of Mental Health for assessment last week and the psychiatric report was just received this morning by the Deputy Public Prosecutor. He requested for some time to review it.
If not for Law Minister K Shanmugam, Lee wouldn’t have a lawyer representing him pro bono. A pre-trial conference has been set for Feb 15.
